Spring is slowly poking its head out with the requisite mud puddles and green buds sprouting on trees, almost as if overnight. That means more time outside! If you find yourself north of the mountain and in need of caffeine, there’s a cute café serving great coffee that you should try: Café Odessa.

Odessa provides exactly what you want from a neighbourhood café: good coffee, friendly staff, and charming décor — that and the added bonus of (almost) always being able to find a seat! On the weekends it’s a different story, with the brunch crowd flooding in from next door Vieux Vélo, grabbing coffees while they wait for a table to open up.

The café has a nautical theme of navy and white, from the old, Quebec-style wood slat walls, to the ship/sea artwork and anchor logo. Everything you see, or sit on, was designed and built by Badger Services.

They carry a solid lineup of Canadian roasters including Pilot, Anchored, and Bows & Arrows. All of their filter coffee is served as pour-overs and they offer two different choices of espresso daily, using milk from Société Orignal. For those who don’t want milk, they also have soy and almond options.

Their pastries are from Le Pain Dans Les Voiles and Rhubarbe. You can’t go wrong with a decadent raspberry pain au chocolat or a citron and cassis scone.

On hotter days (we know they’re coming!), try a glass of their refreshing lemonade made by local company, Limo, or their iced Cascara (tea made from coffee cherries).

With the days getting longer and brighter, it’s time to get out of your apartment. Go for a walk, and stop by for a quick cortado, or grab a table and stay awhile. Spend the afternoon enjoying the cozy atmosphere and wifi with a well-made cup of filter.

Location Info: 65 Rue Beaubien E., hours are Monday to Friday 7am-6pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am-6pm.
