Montreal has no shortage of green initiatives–including farmer’s markets and urban gardening projects. Many of these exist thanks to Santropol Roulant, an intergenerational community food hub that grows, prepares and delivers food in an effort to strengthen Montreal's social fabric and food security. Santropol makes organic baskets, prepares frozen meals, organizes community workshops and catering services, facilitates a Meals-on-Wheels program and more! One of their urban gardens, the Roulant Rooftop, is a hidden gem in the Pleateau. There, you can find an intensive rooftop garden, wall murals and honey bees.

Santropol Roulant is up to some pretty amazing stuff in our community, and tonight is your chance to get involved. The organization invites Montreal to come and celebrate their 20th anniversary at Rue Fermier, an event for all ages. It is farm themed, of course, and will take place across from The Roulant at 111 Roy East. Here are the details:

5:00pm-6:00pm: Doors open at five. There will be live music, tours and kids activities. Food and drinks will be on sale the entire night, and the farmer's market will be up and running.

6:00pm-7:00pm: Workshops begin. The workshops include an exciting array of green tutorials like: beekeeping, bike repair, mushroom collecting, plant pairing and more!

7:00pm-6:00pm: Things get heated with an Iron Chef Competition! Local chefs will use vegetables grown in Santropol Roulant's own gardens to make some fresh, tasty treats. Everyone is invited to vote for their favorite creations. Participants include: Fabergé, The Green Panther, Sushi Momo, Icehouse, Café M, La centrale culinaire, Jitendra and the Roulant community team, and NDG Food Depot.

8:00pm: It’s party time! Grab a bite to eat and a couple drinks and prepare to groove to some live music brought to you by Bill Bland and musicians from the Wheel Club, Dans l’champ jazzband, The Chaotic Insurrection Ensemble, and DJ Sammy.

Santropol Roulant works hard to make Montreal a greener community, and we all appreciate their contributions to the city. On their 20th anniversary, we want to give them a huge shout out! Thanks Santropol Roulant!
