An interdisciplinary festival, Phenomena is the kind of festival to bring the most extravagant acts on stage. From experimental music, to cabarets, to poetic installations, the event works around a theme: an ode to Georges Méliès, who was the first special effects creator in cinema.

The festival was founded by Les Filles Électriques, a production company that prides itself in its risk taking, and its eccentric approaches.

The avant-garde bilingual event will feature about 100 artists. We put together a selection of the most interesting sounding shows:

Sophie Cadieux & Laurence Dauphinais / Des vies Naturelles – Oct 16th - 2-8pm at the Westmount Greenhouses. – “A sound path inspired by the writings of Marguerite Duras and Simone de Beauvoir. “

Carmagnole – October 17th – 4-11pm at the St Laurent Viaduc and Van Horne – “An intersection between circus, theater, dance and vidual arts. “

Mere Phantoms, Garden of Earthly Delights – Oct 18th – 8pm – La Sala Rossa – Shadow performance.

Election Nice in the Phenomena Way – Oct 19th – 7pm – La Sala Rossa – “A delinquent, festive and collective viewing party.”

Peter Trosztmer #Boxtape – Oct 20th – 6-10pm – Tangente – Dance combined with visual art in a participatory performance.

Gen Heistek – Oct 21st – 10pm – Casa del Popolo – Viola, loop pedals, and air driven homemade machines make for a potentially good experimental music show.

Café Concret #22 – Oct 22nd – 8pm – La Sala Rossa – “An experimental puppetry cabaret”.

2Boys.Tv, Corde Raide – Oct 23rd – 8pm – La Sala Rossa – “Exploration themes of mourning and memory through music and projections, along with an orchestra of shadows and a virtual choir”.
